A Boat Full of Cats!

It's 3am and I still hadn't fallen asleep. This is due to our very loud camping neighbours who think it's all well and good to be having a party outside our tent. By this point I had been kept awake long enough! So I went out and put on my best teacher voice and gave them an option; either go away or stay here and be quiet. They were instantly turned into little boys apologising and promising me that they'll be quiet. There was applause from the rest of the campsite, or I wish to think there was. You'd think that my reward for civil service to our camping community would have been rewarded, but no. The man in the tent on our other side, who had obviously been kept awake by the party, was finally asleep and snoring loud enough to burst a Giants ear drums. Great.

Morning time and ready for our day! We went into Amsterdam Centraal to meet Jamie. The weather is so so, but that won't dampen our spirits. First stop was a look around the Dam Square. We pursued the shops and then I was unwillingly convinced to go to a very interesting museum that chronicled a particular genre of photography, delved into one of the more maroon districts of Amsterdam and showed the history of particular human interests and activities. Let's just say that it was no Disneyland!

After that, we went on to try one of the Netherlands delicacys - frites smothered in mayonnaise. A healthy snack. We ate these as we strolled towards one of the canals. Jamie had done his research and had found a boat full of cute, fluffy animals. That's right people, a cat boat! I got to pat, fluff and scratch the chins of numerous cats. Some were grumpy, some were friendly, and one looked like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

We continued down the watery path until we found an empty bench next to a statue of a woman who I do not know and infront of a cathedral. Turns out we were tired because we could not move for 45mins. We regained some strength and whence forth to where the flowers come from. Das Bloomenmarkt! Tulip Bulbs, succulents, plants with names I have no clue how to say. It was lovely! Jamie ordered some pancakes from 'the best pancakes in town'. Not sure if they're telling the truth, but they did look quite amazing!

Next stop, more walking. We made our way through the hippest part of town. Pop up restaurants with subway tiles and giant lampshades, record stores, vintage clothing and the Heineken experience. Here was our next market, nothing to rave about.

The sun was finally waking up for the day, lazy. We trekked our way back to our beloved Albert Hein supermarket to get our BBQ dinner for the night, and my fav new blonde beer. 8%, so after a long day one of them goes straight to your head! We moved our tent to a vacant spot right next to the water, under a tree, away from loud people!

We had a lovely evening and were ready to rest our weary heads as the sun was setting, just around 11pm. Goodnight Amsterdam, sleep well!
