So this Saturday Laura and I were feeling inspired. Not just any sort of inspired, but specifically 'Interior Decoration' inspired.
After a quick Google search: 'Stores like Bunnings UK', we found B&Q, a homeware/hardware/DIY store. Perfect, and only 1.4 miles away.
Now, we were in the market for some new plants. Typically we would have wandered up to the Homebase at Finchley Road, but after an uninspired trip by yours truly the week prior we decided to search slightly wider-a-field. B&Q it was.
We stared to walk along Kilburn High Road, in the opposite direction that we usually go. The Kilburn Underground station marked the threshold of our 'Manor', so to speak. Like Samwise Gamgee, we looked back at the familiar and on to the great unknown: Shoot Up Hill and eventually Cricklewood.
Walking on, we first noticed a change in the scenery when we realised that the bins were controlled by the Brent Council. Brent. We have a history with Brent. The Brent Borough was where Willesden Green was situated, the first place we moved to when arriving in the UK. Lets just say we weren't in Camden anymore.
Eventually we made it to the B&Q, alas no indoor plants, but good to know there is somewhere we can pick up some reasonably priced lumber in the area. After popping into the adjacent 'Pound Stretcher' (a dubious name at best) and picking up a Wok, and some deodorant we headed off, back towards Finchley Road, and that's where things got weird...
After about 5 minutes we realised that we were suddenly in the suburbs. Properly. The. Suburbs. Quiet streets, not particularly nice, lined with houses that weren't touching, 'Mom-vans', and English Flags signifying the supporting team.
It was very eery, like something out of Doctor Who. Then we saw the strangest thing off all; we were in a new Borough - Barnet.
What the crap is a Barnet?
We don't know. It was odd though. So we continued walking, got to Finchley Road, bought an amazing plant and pot from Homebase, and headed for home.
Lesson learned; we love Homebase.
