Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy. The alarm went off at 6am, luckily we were over our jet lag already. The LA traffic was all heading north and we were heading south, the carpool lane allowed us to zoom past everyone else. But what are we meant to do when the GPS (who I named Suzie) is telling you to move over 5 lanes. Lars took the first chance and filled a gap in the next lane. We were blatantly ignoring the blasts from disgruntled drivers behind us. After Suzie took us to somewhere that was neither Disney nor land, we found the miles high car park building ourselves. We made a friend from Minnesota as we raced the transport buggies to the front gate. We got through the gate, and with our comfortable shoes on, we raced for the first ride of our day- Indianna Jones, nothing else. As remembered, it was amazing. Bugs everywhere and sharp turns.
Next stop, a river boat ride. Our driver was the puniest person I have ever met. And sorry Annie, there are not real gators in the river.
Stop three, the Haunted Mansion. Combination of mine and Lars' loves- Christmas and Halloween.
Now we had to stop for something that really made it a Disneyland experience- Corn dogs! A delicious and healthy lunch for the travelling couple.
What would a day at Disneyland be without Mickey ears. To be extra cute, I got Minnie ears, Lars got Mickey (cue awww right about now). All day, Lars' ears kept getting funny looks.
Stop four, Space Mountain. As we waited in the long line, I was expecting another slightly bouncy ride. But no no no, I was mistaken. I was sent into hyper drive, in the pitch black, surrounded by shooting stars and flashing lights. This was by far the best ride! Shana, if you are reading this, this is the ride that was closed when we were here. Probably the best, because you would have passed out!
Stop five, Finding Nemo! After 20 minutes of hearing the seagulls repeatedly say "mine mine mine" we were submerged into the water in our submarine. We were taken on another underwater adventure to find Nemo. It was beautiful.
Stop six, the teacups. We had just bought sugar filled, highly caffeinated drinks and didn't think it through. We went spinning, and kept on spinning, and spinning. Thank goodness our stomachs handled it!
Stop seven, story land ride. Because we still had our sugar drinks, we decided to go on the peaceful boat ride. Driven by a guy who was seriously over his job! It turned out to be amazing, it was said to be Walt Disney's favourite ride. It was a miniature Disney world, where all the characters live.
Stop eight, Thunder Mountain Train Ride. Think the gold rush from Rainbows End, and make it a thousand times better, then you might be close to this one. A lot of fun.
Stop nine, my personal favourite from a kid. Splash Mountain, a happy log flume with a 50ft drop. Caution, you may get wet. They weren't kidding!
Now it was time for a Cheeto and Banana stop, I can tell that you are thinking about how unhealthy our food choices were. Don't worry, calories don't exist in Disneyland!
Stop ten, Pirates of the Carribean. Always an amazing ride, I think that Johnny Depp is actually in the ride, and they are paying him lots of money everyday. It just looks so real!
After one more go on the Indianna Jones and a tour of Sleeping beauties castle, we decided to find some dinner. We had seen some strange meat things all day and thought that it was a good option. Turns out, the meat things are massively ginormous Turkey legs. We couldn't even get through one between two of us. We had a nice park bench neck to the river, and we watched the sparkly Mark Twain river boat sail by. We walked around the shops and prepared ourselves for the light parade. The amount of people in the park doubled at about 5pm, when everyone had finished work. So trying to find a good spot wasn't easy. At 8.45pm the lights dimmed and the party started. With all of your favourite Disney characters dancing on their own float and and being surrounded by neon lights. When the parade stopped, it was time for the main event. The fireworks show, with the most spectacular show being made for the 60th anniversary, we were able to see tinker bell fly, fireworks that were bigger than New Zealand itself, and I got to sing 'Let it Go' with thousands of other girls.
There you go, what else could you do to make it a perfect day. Oh, I know. Finding out the reason why Lars' ears were getting funny looks. Turns out that instead of the 'one size fits all' hat, Lars opted for the infant size. Good times.
Thanks Walt Disney, we'll be back!
